GREEN LIGHT

Look at you. You got a green light. Congratulations.

But before you start waving goodbye to co-workers or your current situation, let’s look at three very helpful strategies. It’s also important to note that a green light doesn’t mean you HAVE to go anywhere. You can stay put for a while, if you like.

Sometimes, you get a green light and you wait for the right opportunity to come along. Either way, these three strategies help you reinforce the momentum you currently have.

1. GET A GREEN LIGHT FROM 3 ADVISORS.

It’s important to get an outside point of view from people you admire. Show them your situation. Share with them what you are thinking. If they were you, what would they do? If you have a good idea of what to do next, ask them: Do you think I have a green light to move on or move forward?

2. CREATE 3 MORE MONTHS OF FINANCIAL MARGIN.

I know, I know, We keep talking about money. And yes, sometimes this can be a good excuse to stay in a bad situation. But if you can create at least three more months of financial margin that would be very helpful.

We’re assuming you have six months based on the yellow light advice. I’m not suggesting we need nine months of financial margin. But it does help you sleep better at night.

3. FINISH WELL.

The better you finish your current season, the best you begin your next season.

The two are linked, though many people fail to see that. The reality though is you only get to leave a job once. Leave the people well. Take the high road. Finish strong with no unfinished work. Write thank-you notes to your boss and as many co-workers as possible. Always take the high road. You won’t regret it.
